About On Shattered Wings

In 2002, 19-year-old Jennifer Dultmeier was killed in an automobile accident in Topeka, Kansas. The driver was Jennifer’s best friend since their childhood. Jennifer’s parents, Jim and Lori, kept powerful journals after her death of their grief journey.

On Shattered Wings is an unforgettable true story of a family’s struggle to survive overwhelming sorrow amidst unexpected and startling events. Along the way, they discover the value of faith, the insignificance of regrets, and the realization there can be joy again through harnessing pain into healing action for themselves and others.

On Shattered Wings is proof that a heart can heal enough to live again but not enough to forget.

When I look at old pictures of us all, before Jennifer died, I feel sorry for the people in the photos…even those of me…because I know what’s coming.
I know, but they don’t. God help them.
— Lori Dultmeier, Jennifer’s Mom
I went to bed that night trying to forget the words
I’d said to Jennifer before she left that evening.
I hadn’t meant them, at least not as they sounded.
I don’t know why I even said them. I was irritated and trying to get through to my headstrong teenage daughter.

I would apologize later. But later never came.
Instead, the phone rang. It was 2:20 a.m.
Our lives would never be the same.
— Jim Dultmeier, Jennifer’s Dad
